An employee at the S.C. Department of Transportation work shed in Rock Hill thwarted an early-morning burglary on Friday.

Police say two people tried to steal equipment from the Robertson Road facility and were caught around 1 a.m. The DOT worker, who was picking up a stop sign to replace one that had been hit, spotted a man and woman loading equipment into a U-Haul truck backed up to the warehouse doors, said Capt. Mark Bollinger with Rock Hill Police.

The burglars were also trying to break into a soda machine, Bollinger said.

Police have charged Shannon Longfellow, 40, of Clover with grand larceny, criminal conspiracy and second-degree burglary, according to Rock Hill police booking reports.

Troy Luttrell, 42, of Matthews, N.C., has been charged with grand larceny, criminal conspiracy, damage to property and second-degree burglary, according to Rock Hill police booking reports. He is also wanted in Blacksburg for another burglary, Bollinger said
