ROCK HILL — A Northwestern High School student says he was assaulted a week ago by a classmate jealous that he made the basketball team, police say.
On Friday, the school’s resource officer spoke with the 17-year-old student who said he was walking to a friend’s car in the gym parking lot when he was confronted by another student, 16, who wanted to fight him, a Rock Hill police report states.
The boy said he kept walking because he didn’t want to fight. The student pushed him three times before punching him in the face.
The teen said he thinks his schoolmate was jealous that he made the basketball team while the student was cut, the report states.
The boy waited two days before talking with police because he wanted to first seek advice from his parents, according to the report.
The suspect was out of school for a couple of days because of the incident, the report states.
