Report: Shoplifter assaults officer at Rock Hill Target

Published: December 12, 2012

— A customer kicked a Rock Hill Target loss prevention officer in the knee Tuesday when she tried to stop the woman from stealing clothes and jewelry, police say.

The officer, 22, told police she tried to stop Anita Elaine Gordon, 19, from walking out of the Manchester area store without paying for jewelry, a skirt and a shirt she stuffed in her purse, according to a Rock Hill police report. The officer and another employee confronted Gordon, who became angry and tried to flee.

When the officer and her fellow employee tried to handcuff Gordon, she kicked the officer in the knee, the report states.

As Gordon fled into the parking lot, she dropped her purse, containing her wallet with her driver’s license and Social Security card.

Police saw the assault on security footage and issued warrants on Gordon, who later turned herself in to police. She is charged with third-degree assault and battery and shoplifting. By Wednesday morning, she was still held at the Rock Hill jail on a $3,000 bond.
