ROCK HILL — A Rock Hill Kmart worker was arrested Sunday after police say she exchanged real money in a cash register with counterfeit bills.

Kessha Lynn Dowd, 26, of 1204 California St. in York, is charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent, according to Rock Hill police documents. By early Monday afternoon, she was still held at the Rock Hill jail on a $5,000 bond.

The Cherry Road store’s loss prevention officer told police that Dowd, a cashier, put $1,200 worth of fake money into a cash register and pocketed the real cash on two occasions, a police report states. Management realized what Dowd had done while preparing deposits. They found 12 $100 bills in the register and saw, via video footage, Dowd exchange the real money for counterfeit money.

Dowd gave officials a written statement admitting to the incident, the report states. She claimed that her boyfriend forced her to steal from work, and threatened her if she didn’t. She refused to tell police her boyfriend’s name.
