ROCK HILL — A Rock Hill mans attempt to steal game controllers from Target on Sunday resulted in his arrest after he tussled with a police officer, knocked over several clothing displays and wound up in a headlock, police said.
Jeramy Pennell, 26, of 1029 Glenarden Drive, Apt. A, is charged with shoplifting, damage to property and resisting police, according to a Rock Hill police report. Monday morning he was being held at the city jail on a $50,000 bond.
Around 3 p.m. Sunday, police were called to the Target at Manchester, where employees told them Pennell had cut off the security tabs for several Playstation 3 game controllers and hid them somewhere on his person, the report states.
An officer intercepted Pennell in the stores clothing section, where he tried to arrest Pennell.
Pennell resisted, pulling away from the officer before punching him in the corner of his right temple near the officers eye, the report states.
Pennell and the officer continued to struggle, eventually knocking over several clothing displays, the report states. The officer took Pennell to the ground, landing on top of him. Another officer arrived and placed Pennell in a headlock while he was handcuffed.
One of the clothing racks could not be repaired, the report states. Store employees recovered all of the game controllers that Pennell took.
