Second Rock Hill man arrested after malnourished pit bulls found

Published: January 3, 2013

— A second Rock Hill man has been arrested after a pit bull puppy was found dead last week, four dogs were found emaciated, and one dog had injuries that were “consistent with fighting,” according to police reports.

Police arrested Calvin Lionell McCullough Jr., 23, on four counts of animal cruelty Wednesday after officers found the dogs Dec. 27 at a home on Hagins Street. McCullough, whose address is listed as Green Street, had been sought for days before he was found at the Super 8 motel on Riverview Road.

McCullough was released after posting $2,800 bond Wednesday, city jail officials said.

Another man was charged at the scene Dec. 27. In the incident an officer found the dead puppy and the other dogs chained to trees and in dirty crates. The animals did not have food, and the dead animal, a puppy, was found still attached to a chain inside a crate.
