High school sports: York wrestlers post wins over Fort Mill, Nation Ford

York 35, Fort Mill 31

The Cougars won eight times and edged the Yellow Jackets in Region 3-AAAA action in Fort Mill. Starting in the 113 weight class, Fort Mill took a quick 10-0 lead. The Cougars spent the rest of the night making up the deficit. York sealed the victory with a forfeit win in the heavyweight division by Beau Nunn.

Gard, 132 - Rumfield (Y) default over Strong, 138 - Walton (Y) dec. Bostick, 145 - Leitner (FM) forfeit win, 152 - Long (FM) dec. Whitesides, 160 - Hull (Y) dec. Hooker, 170 - Wilkerson (Y) pinned Ferguson, 182 - Miller (Y) major dec. Kerr, 195 - Kelly (Y) dec. Cisco, 220 - Hurst (FM) pinned Whitesides, 285 - Nunn (Y) forfeit win.

Nation Ford 29, Clover 28

The Falcons fell behind early and rallied in the final few events to claim a one point win over the Blue Eagles in Region 3-AAAA action.

Starting in the 113 weight class, Clover took a quick 12-0 lead with a pair of forfeit wins. Nation tied the count at 12 with a pin by Michael Allen. When Tyler Godbout scored a decision in the 182 weight class, Nation Ford led 24-21. They sealed the victory with a Josh Driscoll victory in the 285 pound division.

The Cougars jumped to a quick lead as they toppled the Falcons in the second match of the night for both teams.

York claimed wins in nine of the weight classifications. Justin Whitesides, Rainey Moore, and John Stewart recorded pins in their victories.
