— Five Guys Burgers and Fries opened Monday in Rock Hill in a new retail center near Kohl's off Dave Lyle Boulevard.

The burger joint, known for its hamburgers, fresh-cut french fries and hot dogs, is the first store in South Carolina for franchise owner Rick Fisher, who has seven locations in Mecklenburg County and one in Union County, N.C.

"We're excited to be here in Rock Hill and hope to have at least one other store in the next two to three years in this area," Fisher said.

Fisher has been eying Rock Hill for years, working with developer Warren Norman. He was impressed with the big businesses developing around the Galleria, but it was the promise of a Sam's Club that sealed the deal for Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

"When they signed up Sams, we said 'We really gotta get in this area,'" Fisher said.

Having Buffalo Wild Wings, which opens next week, as a co-tenant also helped, Fisher said.
