With freezing rain coming down across the region this morning, all area public schools will be closing early today.
Schools in Rock Hill, Fort Mill, York, Clover and Chester and Lancaster counties have decided to close early.
In Rock Hill, elementary students were dismissed at 11:30 a.m.; grades 6-8 will be dismissed at 12:45 p.m.; and grades 9-12 at 12:30 p.m. All after-school and evening events have been cancelled, including Challenger. Elementary report cards will be delayed until Monday.
In Fort Mill, elementary students were dismissed at 11 a.m. Middle and high school students were dismissed at noon. All athletic events and afterschool activities are canceled. This includes the FLYERS program at each elementary school.
In Clover, elementary students were dismissed at 11:30 a.m. Middle and high school students will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. No afterschool activities. YMCA, which operates on elementary school campuses, will not operate and parents need to plan transportation accordingly.
In York, elementary students were dismissed at 11 a.m., intermediate students at 11:15 a.m., middle school students at 12:15 p.m., and high school students 12:25 p.m. No afterschool activities.
In Chester County, elementary schools closed at 10:30 a.m. and middle and high schools at 11 a.m. All afterschool programs and sporting events are canceled for today.
In Lancaster County, elementary schools closed at 10:30 a.m. and middle and high schools at 11:30 a.m. No afterschool activities.
St. Anne Catholic School in Rock Hill dismissed classes at noon.
York Preparatory Academy in Rock Hill dismissed students at 11 a.m. There will be no Patriot's Promise program today.
The city of Rock Hill, York County offices and state government offices in York County will operate on regular schedules today, spokespeople for those agencies said.
Walter Hautzigs piano recital scheduled for today in the Frances May Barnes Recital Hall at Winthrop University has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday.
All York County Culture and Heritage Museums closed at noon.
