Eclipse Award winning jockey Ramon Dominguez has been moved to a different unit within New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center as he continues to recover from a fractured skull.
Sharon Dominguez, the jockey's wife, said Ramon has been transferred to a Medical Step-Down Unit.
"The step-down unit is an intermediate location between the ICU and a regular, inpatient room," said Sharon Dominguez. "Ramon's doctors say he is recovering well, and we're beginning to discuss his rehab options."
Dominguez was injured when his mount, Convocation, appeared to clip heels with the eventual winner, Sovereign Default. during the running of last Friday's seventh race at Aqueduct. The jockey was unseated when his mount stumbled and fell. The horse did not appear to be seriously injured and was walked off the track.
Last Saturday night, Dominguez was awarded his third straight Eclipse as champion jockey.
