Cleveland Browns tight end and Rock Hill native Ben Watson is one of five finalists for the Byron “Whizzer” White award, according to a Monday press release from the team. The honor annually recognizes the NFL players that give the most time and effort to community service in their team cities and hometowns.

Charlie Batch (Pittsburgh Steelers), Chad Greenway (Minnesota Vikings), Charles Tillman (Chicago Bears) and Jason Witten (Dallas Cowboys) were the other finalists alongside Watson. All finalists receive donations to their charities, with the winner receiving $100,000.

The winner will be announced at the NFL Players Association State of the Union press conference at the Super Bowl media center in New Orleans.

Watson graduated from Northwestern High School in the late 1990’s before starring at the University of Georgia. He was drafted in the first round by the New England Patriots in 2004 and spent five seasons there before joining Cleveland in 2010.
