Meaning of amendment is perfectly clear

Published: January 28, 2013

Regarding Saturdays comment by Diane Rudolph in To the contrary, “Gun Nuts Misunderstand Meaning of Constitution,” I found out some things that I didn't know. First, I found out that I was stupid. Second, I found out that I am also an idiot. Third, I found out that I'm a nitwit. Fourth, I found out that the “coalition of the most privileged members of our society” will most likely take over the country. Last, I found out that I'm insane.

To quote the exact verbiage of the Second Amendment: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Those two words: “shall not” are big words.

The Second Amendment promises that I and the rest of us can keep and use arms legally, be it for hunting, target shooting, skeet, competitive shooting or any other legal form of use.

In her letter, Rudolph called gun owners those exact names that I mentioned. Her acrimonious tone and name-calling lend no credence to her opinions.

As far as I'm concerned, the only item of value she wrote was that her father served in the U. S. Army for 37 years in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. I wish he were still alive so that I could thank him for his sacrifice and service to our country.

I will not pretend to read his mind concerning her opinion. His memory deserves better.
