Lancaster gunshot victim dies, city investigates first 2013 homicide

Published: January 29, 2013

— Police on Tuesday said the 32-year-old Lancaster County man rushed to the hospital after he was injured in a weekend shooting has died, forcing officials to now investigate the city's first homicide of 2013.

Kershaw's Kevis Anthony died overnight, said Capt. Scott Grant with the Lancaster Police Department.

Anthony died in the hospital around 9:30 p.m., said Lancaster County Deputy Coroner Karla Knight Deese. An autopsy has been scheduled.

Around 9:40 p.m. Saturday, police were called to the area of St. Paul and Pleasant Hill streets after complaints about shots fired. Officers initially didn't find anything in the area until they discovered that Anthony had already been transported to Springs Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition before his death.

The case is under "intense investigation," Grant said Tuesday, adding that he plans on releasing further suspect information later.

Three people were killed within city limits last year, including former Major League Baseball player Danny Clyburn Jr., 37, Cynthia "Fruity" Barnes, 47, and Donald Morris, a 54-year-old produce stand owner. The county's homicide rate more than doubled last year, with 14 people violently killed.
