Mucho Macho Man, coming off a disappointing Florida Sunshine Millions, will be held out of next Saturday's Donn Handicap at Gulfstream Park.
"After considering the Donn as an option, we've decided to pass," trainer Kathy Ritvo said. "It does not fit as well into our long-term objectives for Mucho Macho Man as others do."
Mucho Macho Man, second to Fort Larned last November in the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic, was the odds-on favorite in last month's $400,000 Florida Sunshine Millions Classic, but failed to handle the sloppy track and was eased down the stretch by jockey Mike Smith.
"Between him and the racetrack the chemistry wasn't good enough for a concert," said Finn Green, stable manager for Reeves Thoroughbred Racing. "It's probably somewhere between a six and seven-furlong work. That's what we've considered it to be. It did not deplete him at all."
It was just the second time the 5-year-old had ever raced on a sloppy track. The other time was the 2011 Belmont Stakes when he finished seventh behind Ruler On Ice.
