Winthrop University will host its sixth annual Valentine's jewelry sale with part of the proceeds going toward raising awareness about the ethical sourcing of arts and jewelry materials.
The jewelry on sale is handcrafted by Winthrop students, faculty and alumni.
Items for men and women start at $5 a piece.
Winthrop's Jewelry and Metals program is also seeking donations of old, unwanted jewelry for a community jewelry mining event in Rock Hill later this month. There will be a collection box at the sale.
Those tangled chains, unmatched earrings and banged up bracelets sitting at the bottom of jewelry boxes around the Rock Hill area are exactly what we want, said Courtney Starrett, a Winthrop fine arts professor.
The Valentine's sale is Friday, from noon to 5 p.m., in the DiGiorgio Campus Center.
For more information, contact Starrett at 493-3641 or starrettc@winthrop.edu.
