An all-senior starting lineup scored the first 11 points of the game for the Northwestern girls on Tuesday night, and the Region 3-AAAA champs scored a lucky 13th straight region win, 54-37 over the Nation Ford Falcons on senior night.

Sha’Shay Alexander and Natalie Henderson had six and five points, respectively, in the opening quarter, as the Trojans led 13-2 after one.

“They’ve (seniors) won, over the last three years, 37 games now,” Northwestern coach John Bramlett said.

The Falcons did not light the scoreboard until a bucket by Zippy Lincoln with 1:45 left in the first quarter.

Nation Ford used a 7-0 run midway through the second period to cut the lead to 22-17 but Northwestern ended the half on a 7-0 spurt of its own to nullify that and push the advantage back to 34-21 at the half. Senior Mariah McCoy was fouled shooting a 3-pointer with 1.5 seconds remaining and hit all three charity tosses for the Trojans. The Falcons threw the length of the court but Taylor Yarborough missed a layup at the buzzer. She led all scorers with eight in the quarter.

McCoy opened the third with a three and a basket by Alexander finished a 12-0 run for the Trojans spanning halftime. Yarborough scored six in the period for the Falcons, and she hit a lay-up at the buzzer on a similar play as the end of the first half. Alexander led Northwestern with 16 and Yarborough matched her with 16 for Nation Ford. The Trojans will look to complete a perfect region season Friday night at Rock Hill High.
