Report: Bi-Lo shoplifter was ‘violent’ toward police

Published: February 15, 2013

A man accused of being intoxicated and stealing about $80 worth of meat from a Rock Hill Bi-Lo store cursed at officers and store employees and later became violent toward police, according to a Rock Hill police report.

Police arrested 43-year-old Melvin Christopher Durham of Rock Hill on shoplifting and disorderly conduct charges. While in jail, Durham spat on a correctional officer and became “violent and disruptive,” the report states.

Police say the intoxicated man also “took a swing” at a police officer and urinated “all over the cell wall,” according to the report.

Durham was also charged with throwing bodily fluids on a law enforcement officer.
