Two Winthrop womens basketball players have earned player of the week honors from the Big South Conference.
Dequesha McClanahan was named player of the week and teammate Schaquilla Nunn was named freshman of the week for games played Feb. 18-24, the conference announced Monday.
McClanahan, a junior from Oak Ridge, Tenn., averaged 25.0 points per game and shot 44 percent from the floor to lead the Eagles to two conference wins. She got her week started with 28 points on 45 percent shooting, to go along with eight rebounds, three assists and a steal in Winthrops win over Longwood on Feb. 21. Two days later against Radford, the guard notched 22 points and finished the game with six assists, four rebounds and three steals. The honor marks her second Big South Player of the Week selection this season.
Nunn, a center from Fayetteville, Ga., scored 14.0 points per game and pulled down 9.5 rebounds per game in Winthrops two wins last week. Against Longwood, Nunn connected on 83 percent from the floor to finish with 11 points. She also collected eight boards and came away with three blocks and two steals. Nunn stayed hot from the floor against Radford. scoring 17 points on 73 percent shooting. She also had 11 rebounds and and blocked six shots. The award marks her fourth Big South Freshman of the Week plaudit this season.
