Deputies: Man says 10 men stole $900 at Chester Co. rest stop

Published: February 28, 2013

— A South Carolina man told deputies that while playing cards at a Chester County rest stop, 10 men he was placing bets with stole his money Wednesday.

Around 11:45 a.m., the 44-year-old man from Columbia called police and said 10 men stole $900 while they were playing cards at the rest stop after Exit 65 on Interstate 77, said Maj. Mary Anne Tolbert with the Chester County Sheriff’s Office.

While betting, the man took out a “wad of money,” Tolbert said. That’s when he claims the men snatched the cash and ran.

The man said he thought the men jumped into a tractor trailer and hit the road so he got together with two of “his boys” and followed the trailer, Tolbert said. He soon realized that the men who took his money actually got into an RV and took off on the Interstate.

“They’re long gone,” Tolbert said.
