Winthrop University’s incoming president Jayne Marie Comstock will receive a yearly salary of $169,970 from South Carolina — the same as retiring Winthrop President Anthony DiGiorgio.
Members of the South Carolina Agency Head Salary Commission unanimously approved Comstock’s starting salary at a meeting on Tuesday.
DiGiorgio is retiring this summer after 24 years as Winthrop’s president. Comstock will assume her duties on July 1.
The Winthrop Board of Trustees unanimously elected Comstock on Feb. 15 to succeed DiGiorgio. The university plans to host Comstock on campus for a visit in March.
Comstock, director of the Executive Leadership Group for the American Council on Education in Washington, D.C., is on sabbatical from Butler University in Indianapolis, where she was provost and vice president for academic affairs before stepping down to become a communications professor at the college.
