— A Charlotte man trying to buy a car told deputies four men took him to Lake Wylie, assaulted and robbed him and then stole all of his belongings while trying to steal his clothes on Sunday.

At about 2:30 a.m., police spoke with the 20-year-old man who said he met with four men in uptown Charlotte and began speaking with them about a vehicle for sale, according to a York County Sheriff’s report. The men told him they had a car he could buy.

He rode with the men to an area in Lake Wylie, where the men began assaulting him, the report states. The men took his shoes and wallet and tried to take his clothing.

The man said he believed he had been stabbed, but deputies were unable to find a stab wound, the report states. Police found his shoes along the roadway, his wallet and a $20 bill. The man said $1,000 cash and his cell phone were missing.

The man, who was taken to Carolinas Medical Center because he was bleeding from his mouth and had a scratch on his back, claimed one of the robbers had a handgun.
