Don’t put limits on food stamps

Published: March 6, 2013

This letter is to differ with DHEC director Catherine Templeton’s argument that no government money should be spent on junk food.

Even if I am poor and on “food stamps,” I should have as much right as anyone else to a choice of my food. Most people I know of who are on SNAP shop responsibly with only a small amount spent on “junk food” treats.

Just because a few people are foolish enough to buy and eat nothing but junk food, please don’t take away everyone’s freedom to pick out their own food.

What if Ms. Templeton was in the poor’s shoes and someone was about to snatch away some comfort food she enjoys? How would she like it?
