ROCK HILL — The Oakdale Volunteer Fire Department's annual barbecue - derailed last year by cooler failures that ruined 1,500 pounds of meat - started this morning without a hitch, department officials said.
Broken refrigerators last year forced the department to have to throw out the meat and cancel the annual York County event that raises money for equipment. The refrigerator was fixed and the 16th annual barbecue started this morning after meat was cooked all day Thursday.
"We are good to go and already sending out to go orders," said Brown Simpson, one of Oakdale's 20 volunteers.
The barbecue is today and Saturday at the main station, 2633 Saluda Road, Rock Hill.
Plates are $8; barbecue is $9 per pound. Delivery is available for orders of 10 or more.
