Don’t believe everything you see on the Internet

In response to Rembert Howell’s recent letter, “President is adept at brainwashing public”: It appears that our notion of a well-informed electorate is ill-conceived.

Some people are believing Facebook posts claiming that Albert Einstein humiliated his atheistic professor, Morgan Freeman railed against sensationalist media, and there’s that alleged Bill Cosby op-ed. These hoaxes are false, and it seems that propaganda is being used to virulently spread a misinformation campaign. Alas, some people faithfully believe these sophisms.

“I never said most of the things I said.” Yogi Berra

If you know your history, pre-World War Europe was not a good time because Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin collectively were responsible for taking the lives of millions. According to the article, “To Conquer a Nation,” on Snopes.com, “Hitler was speaking of the need to disarm non-Aryans in the parts of Russia that had been occupied by German forces in the midst of a war, not of stripping all Germans of their guns.” Dictators like Hitler must have really cared about taking away peashooters with his arsenal of Panzer tanks, machine guns and flamethrowers.

Eileen Sullivan, in her AP article, “Congress’ Gun Ban Would Protect More Than 2,200 Firearms,” states: “Under the 1994 law and the currently proposed one, the government would not have the authority to take away guns people already legally own.” The federal government would not have this authority because of the Second Amendment.

If you believe light bulbs are spying on you, you might be brainwashed.
