Gas leak in Rock Hill contained

Published: March 12, 2013

— Rock Hill firefighters and the York County Natural Gas Authority responded to what was reported as an "active gas leak" off Heckle Boulevard near Herlong Avenue Tuesday morning when a contractor working for a construction company building a new Walgreen's hit a gas line.

A contractor accidentally dug into the gas line, hitting a pipe and rupturing it, said Jim Heckle with York County Natural Gas. Gas workers swarmed the scene, turned the gas off and repaired the line.

No injuries were reported and no evacuations ordered, said Rock Hill Fire Battalion Chief Rusty Myers.
