The Carolina Wrestling Academy, based in York County, placed a number of grapplers in the top-5 at the South Carolina Youth Wrestling State Championships Saturday, March 9 in Taylors, S.C.
Justin Beck took first place in the 85-pound weight class, while three wrestlers - Christopher Brooks(103), Zeke Bean (105) and Kenny Agurs (120) - earned second place finishes. Bailey Wilkins (85), Joey Bergseng (110), Babe Rigby (126) and Bryn Gaffney (138) took third place in their respective weight classes, and Jared Blake (115), Jarod Wilkins (120), Tyler Wilkins (132) and Jarrad Gaffney (152) all placed fourth. Paul Thomas (40) added a fifth place finish.
Coaches Shawn Petties, Chris Hinson and Clint McAteer helped the wrestlers earn spots in the event the previous weekend during qualifiers held in Belton-Honea Path.
