ROCK HILL — A 57-year-old Rock Hill woman is accused of arson after deputies say she set her house on fire Sunday and then stood in the yard to watch it burn before she was dragged away by neighbors.

Donna Lee Cearfoss is charged with third-degree arson. Wednesday morning, she was held at the York County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond after her arrest on Tuesday.

Deputies were responded to a house fire on Gordon Road near Aziza Road around 8:30 after receiving word that someone might be trapped inside, according to a York County Sheriff’s report. When police arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames, and no one inside.

Police found Cearfoss, who was “grossly intoxicated,” and escorted her away from the house, the report states. Officers spoke with a neighbor, who said he rushed over to the house to see if anyone was inside while it burned.

He and another neighbor found Cearfoss lying on her side with a garden hose in her hand without the water turned on, the report states. The neighbors said they dragged Cearfoss away from the house, although she resisted and said, “shoot it” and “put it out.”

Cearfoss then said she wanted to go back home to get her cigarettes and went back toward the house.

Cearfoss told police that she didn’t set the house on fire. She then said it’s her garage and she can do what she wanted to it, and has done “this before.”
