ROCK HILL — The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has named Rock Hill’s Piedmont Medical Center the state’s “Distinguished Hospital of the Year.”

The award, given last weekend by the American Heart/Stroke Association “Get With the Guidelines” program, goes to a hospital each year that has made significant improvements in caring for patients with cardiovascular disease and strokes.

PMC last won the award in 2010.

The hospital is a 288-bed facility on Herlong Avenue in Rock Hill. PMC opened in 1983.

“We have worked hard to ensure that we are providing quality care to our cardiovascular and stroke patients,” Bill Masterton, CEO of Piedmont Medical Center, said in a press release. “Receiving this award confirms that we are making strides in offering appropriate treatments for our patients. Our team of healthcare professionals is thrilled that DHEC recognizes our efforts in this way.”
