Senior left-hander Jake Rentz tossed a no-hitter in his first start of the baseball season, and the Northwestern Trojans topped the Nation Ford Falcons 2-0 Friday night in a key Region 3-AAAA matchup.
Rentz was in control all night. He struck out six, walked only three and allowed only five base runners.
Northwestern got both of its runs in the bottom of the sixth to claim the win in a battle of unbeaten region teams.
Colton Pagoota led the Northwestern hitting attack with a pair of hits and an RBI. Garrett Rast added one hit and drove in one run, while Josh Crump had one hit in the win.
The win was the second of the week in the region for the Trojans, who improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the region.
On Wednesday night, Northwestern pounded Clover 10-1. Cameron Norwood picked up the win and Dupree Hart led the hitting attack with three hits in three trips to the plate. Jonathan Smith, J. T. Marion, Rast, and Norwood each had two hits for Northwestern.
Lewisville 8, Lamar 7: The Lions scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a come-from behind win over the Silver Foxes in Region 3-A action.
Chloe Thomas picked up the win for Lewisville. Deandra Ealehy led the Lewisville attack with a home run, while Staci Ernandez added a pair of hits to the winning cause.

Northwestern 2, Porter Ridge 1: Ashli Siggins and Sarah Eddy scored one goal each to lead the Trojans to a win over Porter Ridge in the Fort Mill Invitational.
Whitney Hunt, Cara Pennington, and Lauren Watts were credited with assists for Northwestern.
Fort Mill 4, Lancaster 2: The Yellow Jackets scored three goals in the second half and claimed a come-from behind win over the Bruins in Region 3-AAAA action.
Jason Hirsch’s goal in the first half left the Yellow Jackets trailing 2-1 at intermission. Rylan Wells, David Almendinger, and William Hughes all scored for Fort Mill in the second half. Zach Lundy and Wells were credited with assists for Fort Mill.
Fort Mill had 20 shots on goal, while Lancaster managed only 6.
Fort Mill 4, Lancaster 1: Alyssa Smith scored two goals and led the Yellow Jackets to a win over Lancaster in Region 3-AAAA action. Bonnie Holleman added one goal and Gradon Nall scored on a penalty kick for Fort Mill. Fort Mill had 20 shots on goal, while Lancaster had only one.

Oakridge 13, Clover 0
