— A Fort Mill woman has been charged with illegally firing a handgun after she allegedly shot a round in the air while arguing with her child’s father, according to a Fort Mill Police report.

The report states the man came to Forest Ridge Apartments on Friday to pick up his child from the mother. The two began arguing, the report states, and the woman allegedly fired a handgun into the air to scare him away. The man fled and called police.

Police say the suspect initially denied shooting a weapon, but later told police she did fire the gun. Officers found a .38 caliber handgun hidden in some laundry, according to the report.

The woman, 30-year-old Jacquelyn Hope of Fort Mill, was arrested and charged with illegally discharging a firearm.
