YORK — Police on Wednesday arrested the man they say walked into a York man's home Sunday night and shot him in the neck and abdomen after a confrontation while two children were in the house.

Anthony Lord, 47, faces outstanding charges in York County for attempted murder, possession of a firearm during a violent crime and first-degree burglary after a family member visiting the shooting victim at Carolinas Medical Center saw Lord walking along South Tryon Street in Charlotte, said York Police Chief Andy Robinson.

The family member called Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, who took Lord into custody, Robinson said. He's currently booked at the Mecklenburg County Jail, charged as a fugitive.

Police are still waiting to see if he'll be extradited to York County, Robinson said.

Around 10:48 p.m. Sunday officers were called to 102 Autumn Place in the Valley neighborhood in York and met with a 13-year-old boy, who called police to report that Demark Matthews, 32, had been shot. When police went to the first bedroom on the right, they found Matthews on the floor, bleeding uncontrollably from a gunshot wound.

An 18-month-old baby was in the house, police said, but no other injuries were reported. Matthews was taken to CMC, where he had been listed in critical condition. He is now improving in the intensive care unit, police said.

Police haven't had the opportunity to interview Matthews to gauge what the confrontation with Lord was about, but they plan to visit him Thursday and follow up on the incident, said York Lt. Rich Caddell.

York Police had been working with the York County Sheriff's Office's Anti-Crime Team, which "went the distance," to help comb through the county to find Lord, Caddell said. When police received word that Lord might have been spotted in Charlotte, detectives met with police in Charlotte and were "99.9 percent sure" that the man a family member spotted on the sidewalk was the same person Matthews identified twice as his assailant.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police's violent crimes unit used a fingerprint scanner to lift Lord's fingerprints from the sidewalk and confirm his identity, Caddell said.
