High school roundup: 7-run inning powers Lancaster to win over South Pointe

The Lancaster Bruins scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth and claimed a 10-5 come-from-behind win over the South Pointe Stallions in Region 3-AAAA action Thursday night.

Troy Rawls led the Stallions at the plate with a home run and a single and four runs batted in.

Morgan Frost carded a 41 to claim medalist honors and lead the Great Falls Red Devils to wins over Buford and Lancaster in a tri-match played at Lancaster Golf Course.

Boys Soccer

Westminster Catawba 2, Laurence Manning 1

Cody Ellis scored two goals in the second half to lead the Westminster Catawba Indians to a 2-1 win over the Laurence Manning Swampcats in non-region action.

Will Martin assisted on both goals for the Indians. Austin Scott got Laurence Manning’s only score on a penalty kick in the second half.

Jackson Osborn was in the net for the Indians, and recorded four saves as Westminster Catawba improved to 3-4 on the year.

Girls Soccer

Indian Land 7, Carmel Christian 1

The Indian Land Lady Warriors got three goals from Babs Marshall and defeated Carmel Christian 7-1 in non-region action Thursday afternoon.

Shalyn Dougherty added two goals for the Lady Warriors, while Kristin Carpenter and Katherine Kilroy had one goal each. Madeline Bennett got the only goal for Carmel Christian.

The Lady Warriors improved to 7-3 with the win.

Northwestern 3, Rock Hill 0

Lauren Watts scored a pair of goals and handed out one assist to lead the Northwestern Lady Trojans to a 3-0 win over Rock Hill in Region 3-AAAA play.

Helena Moore added one goal for Northwestern, while Whitney Hunt had a pair of assists in the win.

Northwestern improved to 5-0 in Region 3-AAAA action this year.

Bailey Rich scored one goal in each half to lead the Fort Mill Lady Yellow Jackets to a 3-0 win over the Nation Ford Lady Falcons in Region 3-AAAA action.

Cassidy Parker added the other goal for Fort Mill.

The Buford Lady Yellow Jackets scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning and edged the Indian Land Lady Warriors 9-8.

Indian Land erased a 7-1 deficit and took the lead by scoring seven runs in the sixth inning, but Buford came back for the victory.

Katie Jowers had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs to lead Indian Land at the plate.
