Arrowpointe, 1st Patriots credits unions in York Co. merge

— Two area credits unions have merged, effective today .

Arrowpointe Federal Credit Union, based in Catawba, and 1st Patriots Federal Credit Union, based in Rock Hill, have joined. The combined credit union, under the Arrowpointe name, has more than 15,000 members and assets of $142 million.

Both credits unions have long history in the area. 1st Patriots was formed in 1954 as Celriver Federal Credit Union for employees of the Celanese plan. Arrowpointe was formed in 1960.

Membership in the merged credit union will open to people who live, work, worship or go to school in York and Lancaster counties and the Great Falls area.

Felicia Pope, vice president of marketing and business development for ArrowPointe, said 1st Patriots started looking for partners because it recognized the need to expand the services it could offer.

The 1st Patriot members voted to join Arrowpointe, she said.

Diane Catoe, president and CEO of 1st Patriots, said, “the future looks very bright due to this merger. . . The mutual sharing of knowledge and expertise is simply a much smarter way to proceed, because two heads are better than one.”

Pope said 1st Patriot members can expect to get the same level of service they come to expect, said Tim Lyda, ArrowPointe president and CEO.

“We pride ourselves in the personalized service; knowing our members by name. I look forward to getting to know 1st Patriots’ members on the same, first-name, basis,” he said.

Pope said 1st Patriot members will also have access to a number of new services.

Immediately after 1st Patriot accounts are converted those members will have access to lower credit card rates, a credit cards reward program, scholarships, and students loans. The membership rate will also drop to $5, Pope said.

The merger gives 1st Patriot members access to more ATM locations and branches. The merger also extends ArrowPointe’s service area to Fort Mill where 1st Patriots has a branch at the Regent Town Center on U.S. 21.

The combined credit unions will have seven branches and 12 ATMs. The 1st Patriots headquarters branch at 2760 Home Depot Road in Rock Hill will be named Patriots Center, Pope said.

1st Patriot members should receive a packet of information in the mail soon after the how the merger will affect their accounts and what they need to do, Pope said.
