Vandals broke into Cherry Park overnight this week, damaging a gate and two electric carts

Vandals broke into Cherry Park overnight this week, causing about $2,500 worth of damage to a gate and two electric carts, according to a Rock Hill police report.

The baseball and softball park’s maintenance supervisor told police the unknown vandals climbed a fence to gain access to the carts between 11 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday, the report states.

Once over the fence, the suspects apparently broke the gate by ramming the carts into the barrier, causing $500 worth of damage to the gate.

The city employee told officers it appeared the vandals then drove the carts around Cherry Park, running into several things, including a cement trash can.

Each of the carts have about $1,000 worth of the damage, the report states.

Forensics officers surveyed the area to collect evidence.

No arrests have been made yet.

There are security cameras in Cherry Park but the cameras did not capture the overnight incident.
