Hidden Valley 6,

St. Edward 5

Hidden Valley staved off St. Edward’s late comeback bid in an exciting second game at Rock Hill .

Hidden Valley scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to break a 4-4 tie, leaving the Ohioans with work to do in the top of the seventh. St. Edward started promisingly, loading the bases with no outs, but proceeded to run themselves out of the contest. After a pop-fly out, Kyle Wasil ripped a single that scored one run but Hidden Valley centerfielder Nate Atkins delivered a missile to catcher Joseph Bolinger to tag the diving second runner on the shoulder for the second out of the inning.

Crucially, the St. Edward runner on second didn’t advance to third when the ball was thrown home. With Eagles on first and second, Chris Raisanen stroked a single into shallow left field, but while the advance runner was held at third, the runner at first rounded second and headed for third too, only slamming on the breaks halfway there.
