The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets made it to the Wheels Invitational finals by beating the Hidden Valley Titans of Roanoke, Va., 6-2.
Starting pitcher Jake Windham went the distance, pitching a three hitter. Hidden Valley didn’t score until the last inning and both runs came in on the result of an error. Windham walked just one and struck out four.
The game was a pitcher’s duel to start as Windham and Hidden Valley’s Bradford Durham went back and forth for the first couple of innings.
Fort Mill got singles in the first and second innings, but got only one more hit until the sixth inning where they capitalized on the struggles of Durham.
In the top of the sixth, Durham walked three Jackets, and a double by Chase Beaudry put Fort Mill on the board, scoring Josh Turner and Justin Tepper.
Windham didn’t give up a hit until the fourth inning, when he gave up back-to-back singles, but was able to get out of the jam without surrendering a run.
Fort Mill added three more runs in the top of the seventh as Windham and Jaden Savage led the inning off with singles.
Turner doubled to score them both and scored on a RBI single from second baseman Matt Navarro.
