High school roundup: Northwestern blanks Lancaster in soccer

Brogan Gaskill scored two goals and handed out a pair of assists and led the Northwestern Trojans to an 8-0 win over the Lancaster Bruins in Region 3-AAAA action Tuesday night.

Seven different Trojans scored in the one-sided contest that saw Northwestern jump to a 3-0 halftime lead and improve to 12-1 overall and 9-0 in region play.

Trojans ranked: Northwestern is highly ranked in three soccer polls this week. The Trojans are third behind Wando and J. L. Mann in the S.C. Soccer Poll.

They are rated fourth in the Elite Soccer Report. Wando, St, Joseph’s and J.L. Mann are the top three in that poll this week.

Northwestern is also ranked 31st in the nation in the Elite Soccer Report.

Girls Soccer

Northwestern 3, Lancaster 0: Lauren Watts scored two goals and Madeline Ramsey added one goal and handed out one assist and the Trojans defeated Lancaster in Region 3-AAAA action.

Helena Moore and Whitney Hunt also had an assist for Northwestern as they improved to 6-0 in region play.


York 2, South Pointe 1: The Cougars got single runs in the second and fourth innings to claim a come-from-behind victory over the Stallions in Region 3-AAAA action.

Clover 4, Rock Hill 3: The Blue Eagles scored four runs in the top of the seventh to register a come-from-behind win over the Bearcats in a Region 3-AAAA contest.

Patrick Love pitched a complete game and struck out eight to record the victory for Clover.

Clover 10, Rock Hill 0: Elizabeth Edmunds tossed a three-hitter and led the Blue Eagles over the Bearcats in Region 3-AAAA play.

Blake Wallert went 2-for-3 to lead Clover at the plate.

Nation Ford 159, Fort Mill 160, Lancaster 179: Corey Verhage shot a 38 to claim medalist honors and led the Falcons to a win over the Jackets and Bruins in a Region 3-AAAA tri-match at Fort Mill Golf Club.

Girls soccer

Indian Land 7, South Pointe 3: The fourth-ranked Warriors raced to a 5-2 halftime lead and topped South Pointe in non-region action.

Katherine Kilroy led the way with three goals and one assist for Indian Land. Shalyn Dougherty added two goals, while Babs Marshall and Kristin Carpenter had one each

Kate Komorous and Marshall each had one assist for the Lady Warriors who improved to 8-3 overall with the win.

The Lady Warriors outshot South Pointe 15-10. Isabella Mann recorded 11 saves for Indian Land.

Boys Golf

South Pointe 163, York 164, Nations Ford 168: Cody Taylor carded a 38 and led the Stallions to wins over the Cougars and Falcons in a Region 3-AAAA tri-match at Spring Lake Country Club in York.

Luke Lancaster of York was the medalist for the match. He shot a 37.
