CHESTER — Deputies don’t expect to file charges against a Chester County mother who they say accidentally ran over her 1-year-old daughter while working on her car Wednesday.
Police were sent to Chester Regional Medical Center, where they spoke to the child’s mother, 23, according to a Chester County Sheriff’s report. She said she was at her home on Old Richburg Road, working on her 1999 Dodge Durango with the hood up sometime after noon.
While driving the car closer to a garden hose on the other side of the house, she struck her daughter, causing the girl to fall to the ground and under the car. The mother continued driving until she heard people yelling at her, the report states.
That’s when she realized she had hit her daughter, the report states. The girl was rushed to the Chester hospital, where doctors said she suffered a broken right arm and scrape and burn marks on her stomach.
The girl was taken by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for further treatment.
Deputies likely will not file charges because the incident was an accident, said Sheriff’s Maj. Mary Anne Tolbert. The child’s injuries are not life-threatening, she said.
