Parts of Oakland Avenue to be closed Monday

April 12, 2013

Parts of Oakland Avenue will be closed on Monday because of an emergency tree removal.

The 100-year-old oak tree, located at the corner of Oakland Avenue and Myrtle Drive, has developed a large split. The road will be closed beginning at 7 a.m. during the planned removal and is tentatively scheduled to reopen at 5 p.m.

Drivers and pedestrians should note:

• The four lanes along Oakland between Eden Terrace and Sumter Avenue will be closed. Detour signs will be posted.

• Suggested detours will send drivers to the opposite ends of Eden Terrace, Sumter Avenue and Myrtle Drive.

• Pedestrians coming from the main campus on the east side of Oakland should avoid the area of work.
