High school roundup: Northwestern prevails in 9 innings over Fort Mill

Staff reportsApril 13, 2013

Josh Crump lined a two-out walk off single to drive in Drew Patrick in the bottom of the ninth inning to propel the Trojans over the Yellow Jackets in Region 3-AAAA action Friday night.

The Trojans and Jackets battled to a scoreless tie until Fort Mill pushed a run across on a passed ball in the top of the seventh inning. The Trojans tied the score on a sacrifice fly to center field by Crump. The fly out drove in Patrick, who singled to lead off the inning and moved to third on a Heath Summwalt single to right field.

Starting pitcher Jake Rentz had another strong outing for the Trojans. The senior lefty scattered five hits before being lifted in the top of the eighth in favor of Stuart Hodge, who pitched the final two frames to pick up his second win of the year.
