Winthrop University’s DiGiorgio Student Union – the group that brings comedy, concerts and other cultural events to campus – has picked up a national honor.

Readers of Campus Activities Magazine voted to give DSU the “Campus Program Board of the Year Award.”

This is the fourth year DSU has received the award. The group has been nominated more than 10 times.

DSU is Winthrop’s student activities board, led by faculty adviser Boyd Jones.

Jones, who has been at Winthrop for more than 20 years, was honored recently by the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities.

The organization gave Jones its “Lifetime Achievement Award” at a recent conference.

DSU has won similar awards from the National Association of Campus Activities and the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities.

Last year, the board brought to Rock Hill American Idol contestant Bo Bice and break dancing roller-skaters BreakSk8, a group seen on America’s Best Dance Crew.

DSU organizes Winthrop’s “Welcome Week” for freshmen, hosts weekly movies in the campus’ student center and in the past has booked groups such as the Chinese Acrobats.
