— A 13-year-old boy was airlifted to a Charlotte hospital Thursday morning after he was hit by a car while walking across a Lancaster County highway.

The boy, whose name will not be released because he’s a minor, was admitted to Carolinas Medical Center, said Lance Cpl. Billy Elder with the state Highway Patrol. His condition was not available.

Joel McLemore, 24, of Lancaster, was travelling east on S.C. 9 near Buford at about 7:10 a.m. when he struck the boy, who was walking south on the highway, Elder said.

McLemore was not injured in the crash, he said, and no charges have been filed. The crash is still under investigation.
