After two out-of-state residents traced their stolen iPhone 5’s to an address in Rock Hill, a local man told police that he “found” the phones while on vacation but forgot to turn them into his hotel’s front desk, according to a York County Sheriff’s Office report.

The phone’s owners--a woman from Mass., and a man from Conn.--called the sheriff’s office after their devices were stolen at a resort pool in Orlando, Fla.

A tracing application alerted the owners that their iPhones were at a house on Buford Court in Rock Hill, the report states.

A sheriff’s deputy went to the home to investigate on Monday.

A 68-year-old man at the house told the deputy that his son, 28, had just returned from Orlando but that he was at work.

On the phone with his dad, the son said he found the phones in a stairwell and forgot to leave them at the hotel desk, the report states.

The owners of the phone did not want to press charges against the Rock Hill man.

Police returned to the iPhones to their owners.
