— Police say three teenagers took to the woods behind their alternative school last week to smoke marijuana and cigarettes.

At about 7:35 a.m. Thursday, a teacher told a police officer at York One Academy that she saw three students go into the woods near a dirt road on Pinckney Street, according to a York Police report. The officer found the three students --two boys, both 14, and one girl, 13-- before one of the boys took off running toward the school.

The officer found a cigarette the girl dropped to the ground and wrote in the report that he could smell a “strong aroma that appeared to be burning marijuana,” the report states. He was unable to find any pot, but said the boy had “indicators” that he had been smoking pot.

The boy and girl were escorted back to the school, where police called their parents, the report states. The boy who ran later told authorities that the other boy called him that morning, asking if he wanted to smoke before school.

When they went into the woods, they began smoking pot, while the girl smoked a cigarette, the report states.

All three teens gave police written statements saying they had been using marijuana, the report states. One boy was summoned to family court for possession of marijuana; the other boy was cited for possession of marijuana and disturbing school; and the girl was cited for minor in possession of tobacco.
