High school roundup: Northwestern blanks Clover in boys soccer

Julian Welborn scored one goal and handed out one assist to lead the Northwestern Trojans to a 2-0 win over the Clover Blue Eagles in Region 3-AAAA action Thursday night.

Welborn’s goal was assisted by Manny Lanzo. Erin Sallzar scored the first goal for the Trojans with an assist from Welborn.

The win improved Northwestern to 13-0 in the region and clinched the regular season title. The Trojans, who are ranked 20th in the nation and third in the Class AAAA poll, are 16-1-1 overall.

Westminster Catawba 1, Lewisville 1

The Westminster Catawba Indians finished their season by playing the Lewisville Lions to a 1-1 tie.

After a scoreless first half, Cody Ellis with an assist from Jonathan Osborn gave the Indians a 1-0 lead. Allan Jordan scored on a corner kick for the Lions to tie the game in the final four minutes.

Jackson Osborn worked in the net for the Indians and recorded 12 saves. Westminster Catawba fininshed the year with a record of 5-5-1. Lewisville is now 7-5-1.

Boys Golf

South Pointe 156, York 157, Northwestern 167

Bryan Edwards carded a 37 and led the South Pointe Stallions to a pair of wins in a three-way Region 3-AAAA match on Thursday afternoon.

Edwards and Luke Lancaster of York tied for medalist honors for the match.

South Pointe - Bryan Edwards 37, Chris Taylor 38, Briar Herd 39, Wyatt Reid 42.

York - Luke Lancaster 37, Stroud Baker 38, Austin Hall 39, Logan Aggles 43.

Northwestern - Miles Baldwin 37, Garrett Campbell 37, Charlie Duncan 46, Cabel Guyton 47.

Records: South Pointe 16-2.

Great Falls 157, Andrew Jackson 159, Indian Land 161

Brennon Lipscomb fired a 38 and led the Great Falls Red Devils to a pair of wins in non-region action at Kershaw Country Club.

Logan Sowell of Andrew Jackson carded a 35 to earn medalist honors for the match.
