The 2013 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics passed through York County Thursday. The York County leg of the Torch Run began at Cherry Park and after a stop at the Rock Hill City Hall plaza the run continued to the Chester County Line. Law enforcement officers are joined by Special Olympics athletes as they make their way up Black Street toward Rock Hill City Hall plaza. Special Olympics athlete Teresa Boehme carries the torch.The run finished in Columbia. The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is an international event participated in by law enforcement officers throughout the world, with the purpose of raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics. More than 85,000 law enforcement officers carry torches across 35 nations during the Special Olympics Torch Run. In South Carolina, over 100 agencies participate in the run. Special Olympics-South Carolina serves over 17,000 athletes annually.
