MANHEIM, Pa. — Fort Mill High School’s Nick Leitten was named South Carolina’s 2013 Wrestler of the Year late last week by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).
Leitten won the 145-pound state title this year, and finished with 160 wins during his four years at Fort Mill.
Derek Strobel, Mitch Hudson joined Leitten in receiving awards from the NWCA. Strobel was named the state’s coach of the year and Hudson earned assistant coach of the year honors. Both coach at Lexington High School.
During the 2012-2013 season, Strobel and Hudson led the Lexington High School wrestling team to a Division 4A state championship.
“On behalf of the NWCA Board of Directors, I want to congratulate all of the state award recipients for their extraordinary contributions to our sport,” said NWCA president Rob Koll.
The state award winners are selected from a committee determined by the NWCA scholastic state representative in each state. The winners at the state level will now be eligible for regional and national awards.
