Bond denied for York man accused of shooting at deputy

June 14, 2013

— Bond has been denied for a York man charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting at a deputy this week.

Johnny Michael Benfield, 23, now faces 11 total charges after allegedly assaulting two people late Sunday before firing twice at responding police. Benfield was caught after SWAT officers were called.

Benfield was out on bond from a Lexington County drug arrest at the time of the incident, and is on probation from a felony drug conviction.

Benfield has a $147,000 bond for some of the charges that range from drugs to burglary, but bond was denied for the shooting charge, jail officials said.
