3 advance in American Legion Juniors

Conway, Belton and Goose Creek claimed wins Monday in the third round of the American Legion Junior State Tournament at Rock Hill High School.

Those three teams along with West Florence will move to the next round of play beginning at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

In the opening game in the loser’s bracket Monday, Goose Creek scored four runs in the third to take a 7-2 lead before eliminating Dillon 7-5.

In the second loser’s bracket contest, Belton scored two runs in the fifth and added three more in the sixth to break open a close game and eliminate South Florence 10-5.

In the winner’s bracket game, Conway toppled West Florence 8-3. Conway scored three runs in the first and two in the second to take an early 4-1. Conway added two more runs in both the fifth and sixth frames to put the game away.

Right-hander Bryce McCord turned in an outstanding performance for Conway. He went the distance allowing only three hits.

7 p.m. - Belton vs. West Florence
