ROCK HILL — A Rock Hill man accused of slashing the tires and breaking the windows of a pickup told authorities that the vehicle’s owner ran him over on Tuesday, police say.
An anonymous witness called police at about 11:20 p.m. and reported seeing a “tattooed” man and “heavy-set” woman slashing the tires and shattering the windows of a red pickup at Mallard Pointe apartments, according to a Rock Hill police report.
Officers found a 2010 Dodge Ram in front of an apartment, its windows broken, its windshield and window tint damaged, and all four tires cut and flattened.
Police were unable to find the car’s owner, the report states, but another witness told officers he saw the man and woman vandalize the truck and run into a nearby apartment.
At the apartment, officers noticed a fresh drop of blood on the doorway’s aluminum threshold, the report states. When they knocked, a woman, 33, opened the door. She was sweating and pressing a bloody rag to a cut on her finger.
The woman denied knowing about the truck, the report states. Her boyfriend also denied involvement. Police arrested the couple and took them to jail, where the boyfriend said he needed medical attention.
He told police that the truck’s owner “ran over me,” the report states.
Police charged Donald Eugene Morris and Jennifer Melissa Crouch with malicious damage to property. Each was released from jail Wednesday, Morris on a $10,000 bond and Crouch on a $5,000 bond.
